We went to the museum in Nome and there was Fritz, the famous husky, that ran with Balto to deliver the life saving diptheria vaccine delivered to the children of Nome back in the 1925... STUFFED! Everyone thinks Balto is the most famous lead dog and rightfully so. He supposedly was the lead dog. I read about another lead dogs sometimes run free from the pack. The lead is very valuable and can apparently sniff out water and find cracks in the snow and ice to kept his fellow dogs and owner safe. Lead dogs could find the trail when no longer visible to the musher. Togo was another famous sled dog in the race and 1/2 brother to Fritz and was really Sepp's favorite. Most good sled dogs are under 60 lbs and can pull 800 lbs. Amazing to read and see all of this.
